Great product. Heats fast. Turns off when it boils. I was afraid this would have induction technology to make it cordless and hence put out a lot of dangerous EMF. I doesn't. It uses electrical contacts and the EMF is below 2 gauss at one foot--a safe level. Well made and attractive. You can easily reheat water that has been sitting a while. I recommend that you get a vacuum carafe, however, and keep your water hot for hours without using more power.

I'm a tea junkie. Green tea, chamomile, whatever. I used to use a large microwave-safe measuring cup to heat my water. The large measuring cup meant the water lost its heat quite rapidly. Now, I tend to not like to buy devices such as this kettle. I mean, the microwave heated the water just fine, right? Honestly, this kettle is fantastic - it frees up the microwave for other family members to use, it keeps the water quite warm for a much longer period of time than my old method did, plus its nice that it shuts itself off after reaching boiling point. It also does its work fairly quickly too (5 minutes give or take a minute?).

The round base is plastic, with a small cylinder sticking up from the center. Inside this cylinder is housed an electrical contact that inserts into the base of the kettle and gets things going. This 1.7 Water Kettle is fantastic, absolutely works great, very happy with it. It boils water very quickly, within minutes at full capacity, it leaves little residue marks inside of kettle at the bottom where it boils, but can easily be removed with a little vinegar, does not change taste of water. I clean kettle about every 2 weeks with vinegar and just swish a little inside kettle and wash it out and looks like new. this kettle is better (in my opinion) than the 1.5 liter kettle by aroma, that has plastic on the inside with screen filter that can leak into the water, don't know if that makes it taste diff. or has any health effects, I just like this kettle as it holds a little more water. This is a great company that makes great products, you will not be disappointed.
