(It wasn't an Alessi; lt was less angular and more traditionally spherical. I later discovered that it was a Lagostina, and cost about $200 new.) I never used it until one day the electricity went out--the best reason not have an electric stove--and I was reduced to boiling water on my trusty gas stove. Being absentminded, of course I wandered out of the kitchen lost in a good book and let the kettle boil dry, because it didn't have a whistle to alert me it was boiling. So I went on the internet in search of one--they are hard to find. Eventually I located the stylish Alessi Bird whistle (Availible in the original red; but also in yellow/orange, and white), and it actually fit and looked splendid on the Lagostina kettle. Even if it hadn't, I liked it and would have shaved it down to fit. Nevertheless, when pushed on snugly, it works fine. |
