This review is from: All Clad Stainless Steel 2-Quart Whistling Tea Kettle (Kitchen) First let me qualify this by saying I have a background in metalworking. The main reason I bought all-clad is because of the quality of their workmanship and materials. Unlike most other tea kettles I saw there is no bottom encircling seam. I haven't seen an insulated handle that I like.
I looked at the Demeyere tea kettle from Belgium, but balked because of the seam. Definitely my second choice though and I especially liked that it was a silverstone instead of a glossy finish. It also is dishwasher safe and can be used on induction stoves unlike the All Clad. I didn't see this kettle personally. The other serious consideration was given to a $54 Oxo - no seam, wide lid that you could easily get into for cleaning, half the price. Didn't like the look of the insulated handle though. I didn't see this kettle personally unfortunately. Two Berghoff kettles in this category too. The LeCreusets have no seam, but I wanted stainless steel. * Model 59931 This is a GORGEOUS kettle and looks really great on the stove. If that's mainly what you want it for, go for it. Unfortunately, as working kettle it isn't as nice as my previous ones - including the cheapest. I'm disappointed because I expected more from All-Clad, especially for the price. I'm still deciding whether to keep it. This kettle could easily be a 5-star "must have" kettle if only the designers would put half the attention into function they put into form. Design problems: 1) Spout leaks: I read complaints about this on review forums before getting my kettle (as a gift), but hoped mine would be OK - now I have the hassle of figuring out whether to live with the leaky spout (it's a small leak, and only leaks when there are several cups of water) or go through the hassle of trying to exchange it 2) Handle too hot to touch: have to use an oven mitt 3) Must open sizzling...Read more 16 of 17 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: All Clad Stainless Steel 2-Quart Whistling Tea Kettle (Kitchen) I too have a background in metal working, as does one of the other reviewers of this tea kettle. I completely concur with him. I don't normally do reviews, but this product is absolutely outstanding. The lid is solid locking with reference marks so the user can determine if the lid is, in fact, locked. There will never be a steam burn from a top dislodging when boiling water is being poured. This kettle is safe. The combination interior baffle and holes in the spout entry assures the user of never getting drenched with a deluge of hot water surging through the spout. This feature alone reveals the beyond-the-bounds thinking that went into the design of this kettle. I have never seen anything like this in a kettle. Brilliant design. The fact that the kettle does not have a seam attests to its high level of design considerations. Without a seam the kettle will remain in one piece forever and not collect a museum's worth of...Read more |
