Summary: SILICON GLUE FOUND IN KETTLE!!! 2010-07-26
Comment: I bought this glass kettle at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It looked very nice in the box. I took it home, opened the box, took out the kettle, and looked inside. There I found a corn-kernel sized piece of SILICON GLUE -- a small ball of it sitting in the pot! I kid you not! The kettle also literally stunk of silicon glue odor. The smell automatically raised red flags. The stainless dome that heats the water in the center of the kettle is SEALED with a RUBBER circular sealer, obviously GLUED in place with SILICON GLUE. Enter logic and reason: if just under that rubber seal is a batch of silicon glue, then what probability is there of seepage into the water? Based on actually finding a piece of amber colored silicon glue, I invite each person to reason out the possibilities for water contamination. This is not the end of my story. I called the CAPRESSO Corporation on the phone. I told them about the amber piece of solidified glue -- and they played dumb. They had no idea what that piece of stone-hard, amber-colored substance could have possibly been. In other words, how could possibly they KNOW what THEIR KETTLES are made of? So I then introduced the topic of the SMELL that greeted me upon opening up the lid of the kettle and putting it to my nose. They said: boil some lemon juice and the smell will go away. I said: that's all well and fine, but what about this piece of glue sitting in my kettle; and what about this flimsy rubber seal that is most definitely GLUED to the glass bottom? I THEN ALSO ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD DONE ANY SCIENTIFIC TESTS ON THE WATER AFTER BOILING IT, TO SEE WHETHER THE SILICON LEAKS INTO THE BOILED WATER. THE REPRESENTATIVE, A MALE, SAID, YES, OF COURSE WE"VE TESTED FOR THIS. LET ME PUT YOU ON HOLD AND I WILL GIVE YOU THE LINKS FOR THIS INFORMATION. HE CAME BACK AND SAID SOMETHING YOU WON'T BELIEVE: HE SAID: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE KETTLE IS WRITTEN ON THE BOX. Well, this pretty much PUSHED OUR DISCUSSION OVER THE CLIFF. I THEN LECTURED HIM ABOUT THE FACT THAT THIS IS SIMPLY NOT ACCEPTABLE INFORMATION. I SUGGESTED THEY DESIGN A KETTLE IN WHICH THE ENTIRE INTERIOR IS MADE OF GLASS or get rid of that damned rubber seal. I never even heard of Capresso before purchasing this kettle, but it's pretty obvious that this company, to be polite and restrained, is devious. I think this man was banking on me hanging up AFTER he put me on hold. After all, why would he state YES to the question I posed about testing INFORMATION on the boiled water in the pot for contaminants? I will never do business with this company again. This is a money making outfit importing these potentially dangerous and cheaply constructed kettles from China AND with NO guarantees to the customer about water purity or information on the potential for silicon poisoned water.

Summary: Capresso Water Pot 2010-07-20
Comment: This is the third of these that I've had. They are great because they are made of glass rather than plastic. Only downside is the top. On the first two pots both broke after continued use. They would do better to make the top out of metal rather than plastic with a plastic coating to replicate chrome. They are attractive, as much as a water pot can be!

Summary: Really cheap 2010-07-05
Comment: This gorgeous looking kettle with a list price of $100 has extremely cheap and shoddy finishing. The top is made of plastic, not metal, with a thin layer of metallic-colored film to give the look of chrome. One year into use, the film is peeling off and looks really tacky. The handle on the top has also given up, with the plastic screw snapping in two. I am so disappointed: at $100, I expected use of more than a year and I simply can not believe that the manufacturer saved so much money that it was worth ruining a potentially great product. A metal top and screw in the handle would have had me enjoying it for a long time. Too bad...

Summary: quit working after six months 2010-06-30
Comment: I bought this mostly because I felt it looked attractive. Like some of the other reviewers mention, it does emit a foul odor (I think from the rubber ring around the heating element). Another other thing I don't like about this product are that although it looks like chrome, it isn't. Instead, a chrome-like thin wrap has been sealed to whatever is beneath it. After using the kettle a few times, the chrome-like wrap on the lid cracked/crinkled up, and it looks cheap. When it worked, it did boil water very quickly, however after about six months it quit boiling water, and now just heats it up a little. Despite its good looks, I deffinately do not recommend this product.

Summary: Glass Shattered 2010-06-20
Comment: The kettle worked well for about a month. Appeared well designed and boiled quickly, but..... My wife was using the kettle to boil water for tea and the glass shattered as she picked it up. Luckily, she wasn't scalded. I won't be buying another one of these kettles. I don't want to risk another accident and there are other designs that work just as well.
