This whistling teakettle makes a perfect gift for a recent graduate or for anyone (even yourself) who likes to make a pot of Irish breakfast tea to get going in the morning, or who likes to have a friend over for black currant tea in the afternoon. This teapot's mirrorlike silver finish is easy to keep clean and adds a touch of class to any home, but be warned--its stainless-steel handle does require a hot pad to remove it from the range. --Julie McCowan

We bought this kettle after our old kettle's handle broke off off. This kettle is TOUGH. Its stainless steel with only 1 piece of plastic on it (part of the spout lid), and very easy to clean (no worries about destroying the enamel on the enamel version). My hand fits inside of it and i can scrub the inside. Theres only 1 moving part, the hinge for the whistle/spout cover. The lid fits nicely and its easy to remove since the lid handle isn't a button. The handle itself functions well, but its kinda skinny and isn't insulated. I really love this kettle, it functions perfectly. Aesthetically, its ok, but some people might dislike the lack of overall finesse. Now for the whistle, the whistle sounds like a freaking train approaching. Its kinda spooky, just make sure the lid is on tight or else it wont whistle.

This tea kettle is very beautiful. It is sleek and shiny and has a beautiful design. It is the perfect size and weight for boiling water for tea. The sound of the whistle is really unique and has two distinct tones. I love to wait and listen for it. Unfortunately, you have to have the exact amount of water in the pot and the lid must be totally sealed in order to get the kettle to whistle. I did not know this when I bought it. If you don't care about when and if it whistles, it is a wonderful kettle.
