3.0 out of 5 stars Good tea kettle but interior sheds off after a few years, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Copco Red Delicious Apple 1.9-Quart Enamel on Steel Teakettle (Kitchen)
I have had this tea kettle for 3.5 years and I have really liked it except for 2 reasons: 1) the whistle never worked and 2) the interior is coming off so that every time I scrub it or boil water in it, dark brownish-black water with a nasty chemical flavor comes out. While drinking tea recently, I noticed my tea looked really dark and had a really bad flavor. I tried scrubbing the kettle and tons of black-colored water comes out while I scrub. I thought If I cleaned it well enough this wouldn't be a problem but it just keeps getting worse. It was a great tea pot but now I can't use it anymore!

My "2 1/2 Quart Copco Red Delicious Apple Enamel on Steel Teakettle" arrived this afternoon, only for me to find it very clearly stated on the outside of the box that this kettle "holds up to 1.9 quarts"... which indeed it does... not the 2.5 quarts stated.

The base of this kettle is not nearly as wide as my older plain white Copco with the swinging handle. I have not yet measured it, but it is 1-2 inches smaller than the smallest burner on my ceramic top electric range. Probably due to the smaller base, this kettle seems to heat much slower than my old one, even on the verboten "high" heat setting. Even when using the high heat setting the handle did not get hot.

The end of the spout is covered in stainless steel, unlike my older Copco kettle which simply ended with the enamel-on-steel coating. While I have no issue with the stainless steel itself, the way it is assembled causes the pour to be somewhat sloppier than before, so that greater care must be...Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Copco Red Delicious Apple 2-1/2-Quart Enamel on Steel Teakettle, April 9, 2008
This review is from: Copco Red Delicious Apple 1.9-Quart Enamel on Steel Teakettle (Kitchen)
Copco Red Delicious Apple 2-1/2-Quart Enamel on Steel Teakettle: This tea kettle is cute but has a few problems. The handle at the far end makes it difficult to pick up when full and the whistle has to be removed before you can pour out the water. Other than that, it is heavy duty and looks great on the stove. I would still recommend it.
