Summary: Copco Red Apple tea pot 2 1/2 qt. 2010-03-25
Comment: The teapot is very nice and well made. The only drawback is that I thought the spout handle and top of lid were black. They are green. It isn't apparent in the picture. All in all it is very pretty though.

Summary: Only 1.9 Qt Capacity, NOT 2.5 as stated in product title 2010-03-12
Comment: My "2 1/2 Quart Copco Red Delicious Apple Enamel on Steel Teakettle" arrived this afternoon, only for me to find it very clearly stated on the outside of the box that this kettle "holds up to 1.9 quarts"... which indeed it does... not the 2.5 quarts stated.
The base of this kettle is not nearly as wide as my older plain white Copco with the swinging handle. I have not yet measured it, but it is 1-2 inches smaller than the smallest burner on my ceramic top electric range. Probably due to the smaller base, this kettle seems to heat much slower than my old one, even on the verboten "high" heat setting. Even when using the high heat setting the handle did not get hot.
The end of the spout is covered in stainless steel, unlike my older Copco kettle which simply ended with the enamel-on-steel coating. While I have no issue with the stainless steel itself, the way it is assembled causes the pour to be somewhat sloppier than before, so that greater care must be taken.
The interior of this kettle is dark colored not white, making it harder to see inside.
The whistle on this kettle is loud enough to be heard in other rooms of the house and the sound is not so much shrill as simply hilarious. The whistle is harder to remove than the older Copco whistles as this one literally plugs into the inside of the spout, whereas the older ones just fit snugly over the outside. There are two wires on the inside of the whistle plug that I have a strong suspicion will not last very long, but that remains to be seen.
The tea kettle itself is rather cute, and looks nice on the stove. There is some paint detail on the lid that is not visible in the pictures shown here, but will be in the pictures I add.
The lid is very difficult to remove. This is good, in that you never need worry about it falling out whilst pouring boiling water into a cup, but bad if you ever care to remove it.
My kettle was shipped in perfect condition and arrived promptly.
In summary:
+ cute
+ loud, funny sounding, not shrill whistle
+ whistle is removable
+ fixed handle is not over the main opening in the kettle, making it easier to access
+ handle seems to stay cool
+ lid will remain firmly in place while pouring boiling water
- whistle is difficult to remove
- kettle is not the size stated
- smaller base = takes longer to heat water
- dark colored interior = harder to see inside kettle
- pour is a little sloppy, but not horrible
- lid is difficult to remove even when kettle is cool
For me, the pros and cons of this kettle are nearly even at present. I'm not yet sure if I'll be keeping it.
Editing later in evening to say I've decided to keep it because the whistle amuses me, and that managed to tip the nearly even scales in this kettle's favor.
Updating a few weeks later to add that with use multiple times per day over the last three weeks I've come to really like this kettle. The lid and the whistle both still fit snugly but have gotten somewhat easier to remove. The handle indeed stays cool even when heating over high heat. High heat has not yet seemed to damage the kettle.

Summary: Great FUN 2009-05-30
Comment: We love this teakettle. It is so fun since it really looks like a big red apple. And having a whistle makes it so easy to leave the room and know when your water is hot. Excellent craftsmanship.

Summary: Love this teapot 2009-04-07
Comment: I bought this as a replacement for the same one that I left on the stove and burnt its bottom. I love this teapot, except that you have to pull the whistle part off by hand in order to pour the water. Copco makes a "Touch and Pour" tea kettle that is a wonderful design, but they only make it in the 5 quart, which was larger than what I need or want. So, get this pot if you want a cute and durable kettle and don't mind pulling off the whistle piece.
