Farberware Healthy Kettle 3 quart (Athena, black)
Amazon.com Review
A plain stovetop gets a welcome dose of coziness with this lovely Athena Healthy Kettle by Farberware. Made from durable enamel over steel, the 3-quart vessel features a softly flared bell shape and broad base for both an elegant presentation and rapid heating. The stainless-steel whistle signals cheerfully when the water comes to a boil, and the large spout lever with a stay-cool button allows for one-handed pouring and filling. The vessel also fills through the removable top lid. For safe, confident use, Athena is equipped with a clever flat-topped handle that steers clear of the spout and is wrapped in soft, heat-resistant silicone. The textured design ensures a comfortable and secure grip, and the coordinating lid finial lifts easily with an oversized globe. The kettle is corrosion-, stain-, and chip-resistant and requires minimal care for years of service. Available in several richly glossy colors including black, white, and garnet, this handy tool has a classic sophistication that flatters any kitchen décor. --Kara Karll

Farberware Healthy Kettle Athena 3-Quart Teakettle, Black
This review is from: Farberware Healthy Kettle Athena 3-Quart Teakettle, Black (Kitchen)
35 days after we started using this kettle we noticed that the bottom metallic coating (paint, lacquer, metal, who knows?) was coming off in little chips and we had been drinking this for who knows how long.
This was not some packing gunk but a surface that was (supposed to be) permanent. We had not treated the pot roughly, only read instructions, washed it lightly, rinsed it with water & a cup of vinegar when we first got it, and nothing after that. We use filtered water.
Also, on the outside of the kettle, the handle had not been attached properly so that a corner of a washer stuck out a bit, keeping one of the screws from going in all the way. This did not affect performance so we had let it slide as obtaining a working teapot has been very difficult. Apparently designing a utensil to heat water on a stove is beyond the capabilities of our wonderful global economy.
