Product Review

Historic America was originally introduced in the 1930's as a tribute to america and reintroduced in 2001 in warm tones of sepia to reflect the sense of history. Each piece features a finely detailed engraving of a famous American city or landmark as a tribute to the memories of early America. The designer selected over 30 different scenes all about 100 years ago, from which copper engravings were made. To lend unity to the series the famous over all "oak and acorn" design was used as the pattern for the border of each piece. Many interesting examples of this designs are to be seen today in the American wing of the Metropolitan Museum and also at the Philadelphia Museum. A distinguishing back stamp bears the American Eagle and the title of each scene. The featured scene on the Gravy Boat is the Low Water in the Mississippi All pieces are dishwasher, freezer, and microwave safe.

Amazon.com Review

First introduced in the 1930s, Historic America is a tribute to the United States and its heritage. Each piece features a depiction of an American city or notable landmark in warm sepia tones. More than 30 cities or landmarks are displayed on different pieces, each represented in a finely detailed engraving originally rendered on copper then pressed to the piece. An oak and acorn design graces the border of all pieces, providing a unifying theme; the back of each piece is stamped with an American Bald Eagle and the title of the scene.

This gravy boat features a depiction of the Low Water on the Mississippi River. It includes a large, swooping handle that's easy to hold and a generously proportioned spout for pouring even the thickest gravies and sauces. Made of high-quality earthenware in England, it's durable enough for everyday use and is safe in the microwave, dishwasher, and freezer. Coordinate with other items from the Historic America pattern, featuring 30 different scenes, for a delightful meal and history lesson in one. --Jeff Dalto

I really like this...do I use it everyday? No...but who uses a gravy boat that often? I have several matching pieces and got them really cheap here on amazon and have been very pleased. My husband is a history buff and loves the scenes depicted on the items, this one actually has relevance since we live in the Bluff City which is on the Mississippi:)
