Amazon.com Review
This Chinese-style ceramic teakettle has been fired to 2,700 degrees F, making it tough enough to be put directly on your gas or electric burner. The kettle retains heat extremely well: The water continues to boil for 30 seconds after the kettle's been removed from the burner. In addition, the high-fired ceramic is nonreactive, which means the boiled water won't pick up unwanted flavors from the kettle. Classic style elements include a matte finish and a bamboo heat-resistant handle. --David Drury
Comment: I have just purchased a second Joyce Chen tea kettle--for a vacation house. I have had the first for over 15 years, and simply love it. I have worn out several tea kettles in my life; I drink a lot of tea, and keep the kettle warm all day. I am busy, and have let pots go dry a few times--to their demise. But the Joyce Chen ceramic kettle has been fired at such a high temperature, that if it goes dry, it cannot burn. My original kettle looks a little used, but has maintained its beautiful glossy look. Summary: Joyce Chen Teapot is Sublime! 2009-10-15
Comment: One of these Joyce Chen teapots had served us for
almost 10 years, (when I broke it). I looked around
for another. Did I want the same look or a change?
The Joyce Chen line offers many to choose from.
The sturdy bamboo handle means no need to
use a hot pad to pour boiling water. The ebony
ceramic looks stunning and the glaze nontoxic. It
always looks classic as it sits on our stove
ready to serve us great cups of our favorite teas
throughout the day. This Joyce Chen teapot is sublime.

Summary: You can get a replacement lid!!! 2009-09-07
Comment: I love this teapot. I've had it for two years and it's been great. It boils water very quickly and cleans easily. The only problem I had was that I dropped the lid a few months ago and it shattered. Apparently this happens to people frequently based on the other reviews I read. I got upset because I thought I would have to buy a new teapot. However before I took the plunge, I decided to go to the manufacturer's website at: [...]and filled out a webform asking if they have replacement lids. Much to my surprise, I got a response the next day and they do sell lids for this tea kettle for $10 including shipping. This is a much better deal than buying a whole new teapot! So if you break your lid, try the manufacturer first.
Comment: I wanted to try a ceramic pot so that I wouldn't have to worry about rust. (No matter how carefully I wash and dry my metal teapots, eventually the insides start rusting.)
This pot looked like a good idea because it's a nice shape & color, has no whistle (they drive me batty), and it was on sale.
As it happens, much to my amazement, I can actually taste a difference when I use this pot to heat water for tea, coffee or hot chocolate. I like it.
Unfortunately, the handle doesn't feel especially secure. The pot seems too heavy for it, so that I'm afraid of the pot swinging out of line while I'm pouring. I solve this by pouring the way my grandmother taught me as a child: holding a potholder on top of the lid while pouring. This steadies the pot and reassures me that the lid will stay in place. (The lid shouldn't go anywhere anyway, the angle of the spout is such that you don't have to tip the pot too much to pour, but it's nice to be sure.)
I like this pot much better than any other I've used, but I'm still on the lookout for the "perfect" teapot.
UPDATE: I've had this teapot for about 6 months now and I've gotten used to the handle. It's not as insecure as it seems at first. I think I can say that I'm no longer on the lookout for another teapot.
