I love KitchenAid products, but the performance of this tea kettle is not up to the lofty standards that the company has set for itself.Positive: It is a beautiful kettle and the enamel coating looks very durable. The silicone grips are a nice touch.Negative: The whistle is not very loud. It would be easy not to hear the whistle if you are in another room watching TV. The kettle also does not pour the water very well. The water comes out seemingly from all angles of the spout and the kettle has to be turned nearly upside-down to get all the water out. It is not terrible, but for the same money there are better kettles on the market. Buy the Oxo good grips kettle instead - it is a better product.

Faulty Engineering,

I bought the KitchenAid stainless steel and porcelain teakettle a few days ago and have already returned it.
It's a pretty kettle in enamel and steel, with a choice of colors and striking lines. But the engineering, at least on the one I bought, is faulty in two crucial aspects.
To close the lid requires two hands, one on each side, pressing with balanced body weight. To open it, well, that's impossible with hot water in the kettle: removing the lid requires an energetic tug with two or three fingers, leaving the rest of the hand exposed to steam (no room to manipulate the lid with a pot lifter).
Mine whistled shrilly for about 4 seconds then whispered and sighed; would have continued, I suppose, until it boiled dry. I experimented a number of times in order to be certain that the short whistle and long sighing were not just a fluke of the first couple of attempts. Don't Buy if you have a glass top stove,

Dont buy this if you have a glass top stove, only buy the stainless steel version. As soon as we opened the package there was a warning telling us not to use this and when we called the company they said all of the kettles other than the stainless steel one can melt to your stove. I gave it a three because we never got to use it.
