Mason "Pat" (Gloucester Point, VA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Old Dutch 2 Quart Solid Copper Teakettle With Wooden Handle (Kitchen) I purchased this kettle based on the description that it was "solid copper" even though it came with a lacquer coating that would have to be removed before heating water. It looked nice enough when I received it, but once I decided to tackle the lacquer removal, it took much longer for the lacquer to soften (20 - 30 minutes versus the manufacturers statement of 5-10 minutes) and when I started to clean the residue off of the surface (again following the manufacturer's instructions) the copper started to rub off!!! After contacting the manufacturer, it turns out that it is only a copper finish, not solid copper, and the description was a "typing error" on the part of the manufacturer (per their communication). If you want a functional copper kettle, don't buy this one unless you don't care about still having a copper finish once the lacquer is removed. The copper coating is so thin, it will rub off with only one cleaning! I am returning it ASAP! 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: By Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Old Dutch 2 Quart Solid Copper Teakettle With Wooden Handle (Kitchen) Very very thin copper, discolored in a few days, no amount of copper restorer will fix. Did not heat the pot dry, it is just constructed of very thin copper plate. Not the real deal at all. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Old Dutch 2 Quart Solid Copper Teakettle With Wooden Handle (Kitchen) This is a pretty design, but not practical for boiling water for 3 cups safely. The spout is so low, no way will it boil 2 Qts. As we cannot replace our old English-made 5 Qt kettle (the manufacturer is out of business), we
settled for :Old Dutch 1 3/4 Quart Decor Copper Whistling Teakettle With Delft Handle with its higher spout, modest whistle, and a handle that does not get HOT on a gas burner. |
