If you are reading this, you are looking for a tea kettle...something to heat water in, something solid and
reliable--and it should whistle, too. What could be more simple? There are so many to choose from! So hard to decide...
Chances are, you are intrigued by this one, as I was. It looks a little different, and it is. Notice the handle--it is so well-designed--a perfect balance when you pick it up. It is a delight to use! Get it, get it, get it...heating water for coffee or tea will not be the same. You will enter a realm of beauty, the beauty of fine design--the art of the everyday. There is a choice of colors, red, white, black, brushed stainless as well as the polished stainless shown here. I leave that choice to you.

I bought this teakettle about two years ago, and even though it took quite a large flame to get it to whistle, I was extremely happy with its ergonomics.

About three weeks ago, in the midst of a raging headcold, I put a kettle of water on to boil for tea, sat down in a very comfortable chair, and, under the spell of nighttime cold medicine, promptly fell asleep. When I woke up, all the water had boiled out of the kettle and it was blazing hot. The plastic handle on the lid had melted where it met the metal of the lid.

After attempting to glue it back on using epoxy (didn't work), I wrote Oxo Customer Service to buy a new handle. Martha wrote me back asking if my kettle was brushed or polished stainless steel, which I thought was rather odd. Imagine my surprise when I received an entire new lid in the mail, at no charge!

Needless to say, if I need kitchen implements in the future (like the spatula I'm about to buy), you get one guess which brand I will...Read more

Oxo Good Grips products are generally excellent. I bought this kettle originally four years ago. I bought another one recently and found the quality control has sliped considerably. Amazon sent me two by mistake, I had only ordered one. Fortunately one of the two had a badly miss-alligned pop-up lid. Both units leaked hot steam from around the removable cover, posing a minor risk to burning your hand when picking it up from the stove. My original one, from years earlier does not have this steam leak flaw.

This is an excellent tea kettle, if you get one that doesn't leak steam. Other than this steam leak, and the miss-alligned flip-up lid, this is really the best tea kettle out there. Make sure you can return it if you get a leaker, or one with a miss-alligned pop-up lid. Amazon has excellent customer service, and will stand behind you for any problems.

Good luck!
