Before making a decision on purchasing the Toastees TJK-471 Cordless Kettle, I researched similar models on the internet, visited numerous retail stores, and asked people's opinions on which cordless kettle was the best buy. My findings concluded that a consumer can purchase a similar model made by Krups or one of the other European companies for up to 60 to 100 dollars. In that range you are really only waisting money for the name and some minor asthetics. These Kettles are very simple in design. There is a heating element on the bottom of the unit that heats up and boils the water. That is it! Why spend an extra 30 - 70 dollars for the same kind of product. There are some features on the Toastees model that I truly desired in a cordless kettle. The handle is oversized for easy gripping, the color goes with any modern kitchen decor, the viewing window is conveniently placed for easy viewing, the power button is rugged and placed at the top of the unit for convenience, and it's...Read more

Researched a lot of cordless kettles and the Toastess TJK-471 seemed just right! Reasonable price, no gimmics to break, well recommended, and nice looking. It did just fine for 15 months, then just stopped working. No warning like a strange odor, faulty switch, or leaking water; it just stopped working. The "ON" light turns on but no heat. There is no calcium build-up and it has never been misused.

Our previous Philips kettle lasted for over 8 years. Too bad one can no longer find a Philips. Now it seems that a year or maybe 2 is all the life to expect.

One is left with the choice of buy cheap and expect to replace soon or pay more and hope that higher cost equals higher quality. I'll bet it doesen't.

Bought two....one for my wife and one for our neighbor. Two months in and the jug on ours will not make an electrical connection with the base. Power light flashes off and on if you wiggle the jug, but won't stay connected or heat. The neighbor's gift kettle already has a broken filter screen...won't stay snapped in place. Manual say return it at my expense unless within return period of retailer............why should I have to do all this work. Unfortunately Phillips no longer makes kettles like the one that lasted ten years.
